Kiwi PyCon provides financial aid to those who otherwise would not be able to attend.
We strongly encourage people to apply for financial aid -- some attendees, speakers, workshop tutors, etc. may have some, or in rare cases, all of their expenses such as travel, accommodation and conference ticket fee provided to them from the Kiwi PyCon budget. The application process is simple, and straight forward. It’s also very liberal -- the only caveat is that speakers at the conference will have a higher chance of getting their application approved, so that we don’t lose a good talk because of financial need. We also don’t ban anyone from applying.
Please understand that we are a relatively small conference with a correspondingly small budget. Financial aid towards travel expenses will most likely be limited to domestic travel
Every Contributor ticket contributes to the Financial Aid budget - they are essentially "buy one for you, one for somebody else" tickets.
The financial aid programme is the community holding up the community and making itself accessible at this major event through these financial grants. It is the very spirit of the conference; make the information, knowledge, friendships and connection available to everyone.
Timeline
23 Feb 2024: Financial aid applications open.
23 May 2024: Financial aid applications close.
01 Jun 2024: Financial aid grants awarded.
08 Jun 2024: Deadline to respond to accept / decline financial aid.
